What even is Organic Cotton?
Share
We know some of you might not be too fussed about which suppliers your favourite brands choose — and that’s totally fine! But if you're curious about why we decided to go with organic cotton for our baby clothes, read on.
Finding a supplier
When we started sourcing baby clothing to match our funky designs, we had a clear ethos: we wanted a sustainable and ethical supplier. Not just for the sake of the planet and the people involved in making our products — but also because clothing made this way is better for babies’ skin.
Behind every cheeky vest or out-there t-shirt we sell, there’s an entire process that brings it to life.
We chose Babybugz, a brand that shares our values. They’re a leader in sustainable babywear and use either 100% organic cotton or cotton that’s in full organic conversion.
Okay, but what makes Babybugz organic cotton special?
Glad you asked! Here’s why it stands out:
- No nasty pesticides or chemicals are used in growing their cotton — perfect for delicate baby skin
- The whole supply chain is chemical-free, making clothes gentler and less irritating
- Workers and farmers earn fair wages and work in safe conditions, supporting their families and communities
- Organic farming creates healthier soil, more resilient to floods and droughts
- No genetically modified seeds, artificial fertilisers, or toxic pesticides — supporting biodiversity and wildlife
- Organic farming helps fight climate change by locking carbon in the soil and avoiding fossil-fuel-reliant fertilisers
- It uses less water, often relying on rain and avoiding water contamination
Here's a tag from one of our bibs:
Great! But is that why it costs more?
Yes, we won’t lie. Sustainable, organic cotton isn’t the cheapest option. Plenty of brands cut corners and go for cheaper suppliers, and we could have done the same. But ethically, that didn’t sit right with us and what we wanted to offer.
With sustainability, you’re not just buying a product — you’re investing in quality, ethics, and the future.
Here’s what you’re getting:
- Super soft, safe fabric for sensitive skin
- A supply chain that pays fairly and works sustainably
- Less risk of chemical exposure for your baby
- Durable, high-quality clothing that’ll stand up to whatever your baby throws at it
Round-up
Look, we know you might be buying our clothes simply because they’re funky and cool, we love that and are very thankful for each order!
But it’s nice to know that when you shop with us, you’re also backing sustainability and helping shape a better world for your baby to grow up in.
So yes, our clothes might cost a little more than some of our competitors — but we believe every penny is worth it.
